The Education Department of the Seneca Nation Cattaraugus Territory provides
continuous opportunities for quality life long education, Seneca Language and
culture services to promote and empower our communities.
Carrie Peterson, Director of Education
The Cattaraugus Territory administrative team operates the Seneca Nation
Department of Education, Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, and
during many of the evening and weekend programs that are available. The
administrative staff is crucial to the fulfillment of the many facets and
responsibilities of the SNI Department of Education. The Director, Assistant
Director, Budgets and Grants Officer, Education Outreach Planner and Secretary
provide guidance and direction, supervision, budget information/grant
monitoring and administrative/ clerical support to the
department's various components. The Education Outreach
Planner plans events and activities to enhance the quality of services
provided.
The Department of Education planning involves coordination with other Seneca
Nation departments, federal granting agencies, schools, colleges, and other
partnering entities. The department uses an ongoing cycle of assessment in
determining the effectiveness of programs. Information is obtained from
community assessments, surveys and Community Concern forms. Additionally, this
information provides input to the department (the Culture, Education and
Recreation Committee). Academic data is collected annually and analyzed,
allowing the department to respond to the ever changing identified needs of the
community in a focused manner.
